Connection Internal Testing

What is it?

Connection internal testing allows our operators to pressure test the casing in the same way as to simulate the similar direction of pressures applied during fracing, injection, and production. When testing casing from 177.8mm (7") - 273.1mm (11 3/4") you get an entire test of the connection area.

How Does it Work?

Connection internal testing utilizes a bar tool. The bar tool used by Hydrotestors operates with one upper and one lower expandable packer element. This bar tool uses two pressure sources; one to activate the packer elements, and one to supply the test port pressure. This bar tool is made to test one connection at a time. It is connected via a rope socket to the wireline on the testing unit throughout the complete testing operation. The tool is lowered into the casing for each test and is removed between tests. The fluid inside the the tool is retained throughout the testing operation. The length of a test is about 2 minutes from the time the tool is lowered in the casing, the test is completed and the tool is pulled out.

What are the advantages?

The principle advantage of internal pressure testing is that it duplicates the well conditions of fluid or gas flowing inside the tubular under pressure.Hydrotestors connection internal testing bar tool has been designed with a range of outside diameters that minimize the the volume of fluid in the test area while still maintaining a safe margin for tool clearance in the tubular. This feature is very beneficial as it minimizes pumping time to achieve the desired pressure, and also allows for very high resolution and therefore results in the rapid detection of minor leaks. This combined with Hydrotestors PRS (Pressure Recording System) Data Collection Program ensures more accurate pressure reading. The two pressure sources is an important feature as it allows our operator to establish a seal with the packer elements prior to applying the pressure to the tubular. This advantage becomes very apparent when pressure testing severly corroded casing, or casing with appreciable scale build-up. This could also be a cost effective program to help prolong the life of the casing. The connection internal testing bar tool can also drift the tubular and connection after make-up ensuring that the tubular has not been crimped and the connection is not pinned in from over torque. This system will also test most bottom hole equipment. Packers, Seal Assemblies, Nipples, also right up to and including a Tubing Hanger. In some cases this sytem can do a casing test, and be used to test Blow-out Preventers.

How is this system safe?

Hydrotestors connection internal testing bar tools have a working pressure rating of 70 MPA or 10,150 PSI. With a 3-1 safety factor for testing 7"( 177.8mm), 7 5/8"( 193.7mm), 8 5/8"( 219.1mm), 9 5/8" (244.5mm), and 11 3/4"( 273.1mm). This is a much safer operation than other testing alternatives are there is less equipment and personnel on the rig floor while running pipe. Reason is because the testing unit can be located 100 feet from the wellbore and is connected to the testing tools via two high pressure lines with a stinger on the end to direct fluid. The operator controls everything from an operators cab on the testing unit where all guages and controls are at their fingertips. Also while using the connection internal testing bar tool most testing is done below the rig floor helping to keep the majority of the pressure away from the people on the rig floor.

Full Body Internal Testing

What is it?

Full body internal testing allows our operators to pressure test the tubing and casing in the same way as to simulate the similar direction of pressures applied during fracing, injection, and production. When testing tubing up to 114.3mm (4 1/2") and casing up to 177.8mm (7") you get an entire test of the connection as well as the complete pipe body.

How Does it Work?

Full body internal testing utilizes a bar tool. The bar tool used by Hydrotestors operates with two upper and two lower expandable packer elements. This bar tool uses two pressure sources; one to activate the packer elements, and one to supply the test port pressure. The bar tool can be made to test one joint at a time, can be made to test two joints at a time, and in some special cases to test three joints at a time.

What are the advantages?

This could also be a cost effective program to help prolong the life of the tubing or casing. The internal testing bar tool can also drift the tubular and connection after make-up below slips ensuring that the tubular has not been crimped and the connection is not pinned in from over torque. Special tools have been designed to be able to test plastic coated tubulars and fiberglass while minimizing damage to the coatings. This system will also test most bottom hole equipment. Packers, seal assemblies, anchors, nipples, injection mandrils. Right up to and including a wellhead, frachead, tubing hanger. In some cases this system can test Lubricators, String Tests, Casing Tests, Blow-out Preventers.

How is this system safe?

Hydrotestors internal testing bar tools have a working pressure rating of 104 MPA or 15,000 PSI. With a 3-1 safety factor for testing 2 3/8"( 60.3mm), 2 7/8" (73mm), 3 1/2"( 88.9mm), and 4 1/2" (114.3mm). Hydrotestors PRS Data Collection Program

What is it?
How does it work?
What are the advantages?

What is it? Hydrotestors PRS Data Collection Program is used in conjunction with either the connection internal testing or the full body internal testing. This system utilizes real time display to show pressure versus time. Depending on the length of the individual tests a 1, 5, or 10 second data collection will be used to chart the information.

How Does it Work? Information is read through a pressure transducer into the PRS Unit. This information is then displayed on a touch screen in the operator's cab located in the testing unit for the operator to see the pressure and time of each test. Differential pressure calculations show the operator how much of a pressure change there was over time for each test. The PRS Data Collection Program has automatic or manual recording capabilities. This information can then be displayed in an easy to understand graph. Click here to see samples.

What are the advantages?

While a standard 6" Compound Pressure Gauge is rated at +/- 5%, so at 70,000 KPA this guage could be reading somewhere from 66,500 KPA - 73,500 KPA. Hydrotestors PRS Data Collection Program is accurate within 0.01% meaning at 70,000 KPA the PRS will be reading somewhere from 69,993 - 70,007 KPA. Testing pressures as well as any leaks will be more precise, and easier to find while utilizing this system. Individual tests can be done from 5 seconds to as much as 1 hour allowing for a broad spectrum of testing times, this time frame can also be changed from one test to the next. The differential pressure calculations allow the operator to account for a pattern of pressure drops while testing, for example temperature and downhole fluids can fluctuate testing results. The operator can keep track of a pattern of pressure results depending on each situation and determine if there is an actual leak or not. Customers can access the finished testing results for a specific test or an entire testing job by downloading or viewing via our secure website www.hydrotestors.com All customers can request there own username and password to be able to get this information.
