What is it?

A PTW or Power Thread Washer can be used to clean the thread and seal areas of both the box and pin ends of any API, Premium Connection, and Drill Pipe. Hydrotestors 550 Series, 960 Series, and 1360 Series PTW's can clean from 3/4"(19.1mm) to
13 5/8"(346.1mm). Most OCTG running procedures require that the tubular connection be cleaned.

How does it work?

The PTW Unit needs a supplied air source of a minimum of 30 CFM at 100 PSI to operate the air motors effectively. The unit also has a 120L tank to hold the cleaning slovent. Once plugged into the supplied air by connecting the Box Head and Pin Head, one trigger activates the air motor to spin the brushes, the second trigger activates the solvent sprayers.

What are the advantages?

All connections, prior to make-up should be free of all foreign material to ensure proper thread engagement and seal integrity. Therefore reducing costly connection leaks and/or recuts, also extending the life of the threads and seal areas of the box and pin ends. Steel or Nylon Brushes are available for API, Premium Connections, or Drill Pipe. A PTW Unit is very versatile as it can be used on the rig floor or at the pipe racks, also minimal training is required to operate the PTW safely. PTW Units are very portable as they will fit into the back of a 1/2 ton pick-up truck for easy transportation.

How is it safe?

All rotating parts and cleaning solvent sprayers are all enclosed making them user friendly. Minimal training is required to operate the PTW safely, and can be used at either the rig floor or set-up to clean on the pipe racks. A Stand Style PTW Unit is available to clean pipe on a rack, this is most usefull when using the larger PTW Box and Pin Heads. Catch basins and drain hoses are available to catch all used cleaning solvents. Parts that make up the PTW Box and Pin Heads are made from lightweight aluminum. All tanks, hoses, fittings are pressure tested prior to leaving our shop.

Stab In & Break Out Guides

More commonly referred to as Stabbing and Pulling Guides, Stab In and Break Out Guides are available for sizes
1 1/4" (31.8mm) - 20" (508mm)

Stab In and Break Out Guides can be made for all of the following:

API

  • API Tubing
  • API Casing
  • API Drill Pipe

Premium

  • Premium Tubing
  • Premium Casing
  • Premium Drill Pipe

Most OCTG running procedures promote the use of a Stab-in Guide. Most Premium Tubular Supervision Companies, as well as Tubular Suppliers recommend the use of a Stab In and Break Out Guide for all Premium Connections. The same theory of using a Stab In and Break Out Guide could be carried over to all API Tubing, Casing and Drill Pipe.

Stab In Guides are used while running pipe to protect the pin threads and seal area, as well as the box end threads from being damaged by missed stabs during make-up.

Break Out Guides are used while pulling pipe to protect the pin and box threads from hanging up by keeping the connection centered to allow proper thread clearance during the break apart process.

All Stab In and Break Out Guides have a plastic urethane insert that will not damage the box or pin areas of the connection. This plastic urethane is good for extreme cold and hot conditions and is resistant to most chemicals.

Nylon Drifts

NYLON DRIFT or (DRIFT MANDREL)
Nylon Drifts are available for sizes 1 1/4" (31.8mm) to
20" (508mm ) in stock. We are able to make a drift up to a maximum of 26" O.D.

Most OCTG running procedures promote the use of a Plastic or Teflon Coated Drift. Our UHMW Drifts meet this criteria.

Most Premium Tubular Supervision Companies, as well as Tubular Suppliers recommend the use of a Nylon Drift for all Premium Connections. We make drifts that comply with all API specifications, as well as any custom sizes. We can accommodate drifts for any of the following;

  • API Tubing and Casing
  • Premium Tubing and Casing
  • API & Premium Drill Pipe
  • Plastic Coated Pipe, or internally coated tubulars
  • Fiberglass Tubulars
  • Valves & Christmas Trees
  • Specialty drifts for packers, B.O.P. stacks, etc.
Our Drifts are made from a UHMW Polyethylene Rod which has the following characteristics:
  • Lightweight - Less likely to damage pipe, personnel and thread protectors
  • High chemical and corrosion resistance
  • Very low coefficient of friction
  • Excellent abrasion resistance
  • Good impact strength.
All of these factors combined with the ability to handle extreme cold and extreme hot conditions will allow for an excellent wear factor enabling several trips of pipe. Drift tapes(snake) are available for rental or purchase for use with any size drift.
